It allows you to install a very secure, water-tight fitting when you have no access to the inside of the kayak for a nut and washer. Simply drill a 3/8 diameter hole, press the good nut into the hole, and then use a 10-32 machine screw to attach your deck fitting. The good nut is strong enough for rod holders and electronics mounts.
