The Wildfish Northern Estuary / Billabong Fly Pack is a curated selection of 10 technical flies designed by renowned Australian fly angler Peter Morse. Distributed by JM Gillies, this pack is specifically engineered for tropical freshwater systems and northern estuaries, targeting aggressive predatory species such as Barramundi, Saratoga, Tarpon, and Sooty Grunter.
The pack utilizes a mix of surface poppers, sub-surface streamers, and weighted flies to cover the entire water column:
| Quantity | Fly Pattern | Size / Technical Detail |
| 2 x | Ultra Foam Poppers – Frog | #6 (Includes Weed Guard) |
| 2 x | Ultra Foam Poppers – Fire Tiger | #6 (Includes Weed Guard) |
| 1 x | Pink Thing | #1 – Chain Eyes (Includes Weed Guard) |
| 1 x | Black 'n Barred | #2/0 – Chain Eyes (Includes Weed Guard) |
| 1 x | Flashtail Clouser – Orange/Black | #1 |
| 1 x | Clouser – Grey/White | #1 |
| 1 x | Clouser – Orange/White | #1 |
| 1 x | Beadhead Woolly Bugger – Black | #4 |
Targeted Species Design: While focused on Northern "Billabong" species like Saratoga and Barra, the patterns—specifically the poppers and Woolly Buggers—are equally effective for Bass in southern systems.
Integrated Weed Guards: Most flies in this pack (Poppers, Pink Thing, Black 'n Barred) feature integrated weed guards. This is a critical technical requirement for fishing amongst lily pads, snags, and heavy aquatic vegetation without snagging.
Water Column Versatility:
Surface: Foam Poppers for aggressive surface strikes in cover.
Mid-Water: Pink Thing and Black 'n Barred for slow, jerky retrieves.
Deep: Weighted Clousers designed to "dig" deep into snags and along weed bed edges.
High-Quality Ties: All flies are part of the Felty’s Flies range, known for using durable synthetic and natural materials that withstand the abrasive mouths of tropical fish.
The "Bloop" Retrieve: Cast poppers tight to cover or lily pads. Use a slow "bloop" retrieve and pause. It is vital to delay the strike until the fish has fully turned with the fly.
The Snag Drop: Fish the Clousers deep. They are designed to be picked up on the sink, making them lethal when dropped vertically into timber or heavy structure.
The Slow Jerk: The Pink Thing and Black 'n Barred are classic Barramundi patterns. They perform best with a slow, jerky retrieve that mimics a wounded baitfish.
